Funky & Dramatic

“Low on maintenance but high on impact” was the brief for this unusual and ambitious Fulham garden. To cut down on outdoor chores, a lawn was avoided and plants selected which would not sulk if neglected for a while.

The main line of view from the kitchen leads the eye through a steel pergola system culminating in a stainless steel water tower. Rectangles of blue Perspex were hung from the sides of the pergolas using chain. Spotlights were positioned behind the Perspex which, when lit at night, create a blue tunnel through the garden. The water tower is also backlit in the same way.

The boundaries have all been replaced with timber fencing stained black. This compliments the black brick that edges the silver grey paving stones used throughout. A secluded terrace is reached at the top of the garden. The surrounding planting has a strong, architectural style and disguises a small shed located halfway up the garden.
