Adults vs Children

In common with many families, the owners of this garden wanted space for their children to play without turning the entire area into a war zone. To achieve this, the garden was divided into child-friendly and child-free areas.

Near the existing terrace, a knot garden was set amongst gravel, giving an attractive, year round feature to view from the house. Beyond this a lawn leads to a trellis fence and an archway through to the vegetable garden.

Walking through a series of arches you reach the children’s play lawn where the swings, slide, climbing frame and Wendy house are sited, along with a seating area for parental supervision. Finally, a utility area at the back of the garden is hidden behind a fence, whilst a firepit, sited beyond the climbing logs, can be used for bonfires or roasting marshmallows. The entire garden is set at the same angle as the house to link the two areas together.
